Defining the Photoshop Color Replacement Too

The Photoshop Color Replacement Tool is a tool that allows you to perform color replacement tasks on an image in one simple step. The tool does works like a regular paint brush, because it does not overwrite the data on an image. This Photoshop tool manipulates color on the user’s image while retaining the detail and underlying texture of the image. Performing as a paintbrush gives the Color Replacement Tool advantages over other color replacement functions in Photoshop. It can be applied with more precision than other color replacement functions, and saves consumers time, by extracting a mask of the image before applying color changes. The Color Replacement Tool is used best for correcting red-eye.

There are several components to the Color Replacement Tool. To select the tool, you must first select the Toolbox, which will show the various options in the Options bar. The various options in the Option Bar include different modes of the Color Replacement Tool. The various modes include, Hue, Saturation, Color and Luminosity. The Hue mode will apply the color replacement in a subtle way, while the Color mode provides a vibrant color effect. Sampling is an option that determines the source for the color replacement. The Sampling options are Continuous, “Background Swatch†and Once. Continuous sampling means the user will be continuously sampling the colors as they go through the program. “Background Swatch†sampling uses the background swatch as a predefined sample color. So, only areas containing the current background color will be replaced.

“Once†is the last Sampling option, which will replace the targeted color only in areas containing the color that you’ve first clicked. There are also Limit options available when using the Photoshop Color Replacement Tool. The Limit options available are Contiguous, Discontinuous and Find Edges. The Contiguous option will replace colors that are contiguous with the color under the pointer. Discontinuous replaces the sample color under the pointer wherever it goes. Find Edges replaces connected areas containing the sampled color while preserving the sharpness of the shape edges. The Find Edges option limits the anti-aliasing. Unlike the Find Edges option the anti-aliasing option gives softer and smoother edges, but a less precise result.

The Photoshop Color Replacement Tool is also used to remove red-eye from photos. The Color Replacement Tool makes removing red-eye an easy process. The first step to removing red-eye from a photo open in Photoshop is to select the Color Replacement Tool from the Toolbox. The tool essentially replaces whatever color the user paints over with whatever they have set as their foreground color. When replacing red-eye the foreground color should be set to black, because you are emitting the pupil. Users can use the brush tool to specify the brush tip size they want to use. The best way to change the brush tip size is by pressing the closed and open bracket keys ([]) on the keyboard to shrink and increase the brush tip size respectively. Users may use any brush tip size that fits their needs.

The color mode should be left at Color, since you’re using the Color Replacement Tool to replace the red color with another. While dragging the brush the user may specify if the color in the image’s color should be continually replaced, or users may replace the color on a click-by-click basis by selecting an option from the Sampling pull down menu. In the limits menu, you should choose the Contiguous option, because you want the Photoshop Color Replacement Tool to change the color of the image that is right beneath the brush tip. Tolerance allows users to specify how sensitive Photoshop is when colors are being replaced. The higher the Tolerance level, the more the colors will be replaced as the user drags the paintbrush around. On the other hand the lower the tolerance, the fewer colors will be replaced. When removing red-eye the Tolerance should be set at about 30 percent. Once all of the color replacement tool options are set, the red-eye may be removed.
