Among the many effects you can use Adobe Photoshop to create in an image is to make the image glow. You can use this tool to make backgrounds, foregrounds, text, or any part of an image glow, but for beginning purposes, it is easiest to learn this tool by experimenting with making a whole image glow. Once you master that, you can refine your skills to better suit your purposes.

To get started on making your image glow, choose what you want to work with, and open that file in Photoshop. If the image is not saved as an RDF file format, then you will need to convert it in Photoshop. Once you have selected your image, open the filter tool. Click “filter”, then “render,” then “lighting effects.” This will open the lighting effects box. In the box, choose a light type. Omni is a standard one to work with, but you can experiment with different light types to get the lock you want to achieve. Apply the changes; close the dialogue box, and you’re done! Your whole image should now be glowing.

If you don’t want to work with an image, but rather you want to make some kind of glowing graphics, you can do that using the Photoshop polar coordinates filter. A simple way to start is to create a glowing swirl. To do this, first open a new file and then select “create a new layer.” For simplicity’s sake, while you’re learning, set the foreground color to black and the background color to white.

Next, you want to fill your screen with gradient. Open the gradient tool and then using the tool, trace from the bottom left corner of the screen to the top right - your screen should now be filled with gradient. Now, open the wave window by clicking “filter”, then “distort”, and then “wave.” You will need to change a number of settings in the wave window. The number of generators should be set at 9, and the wavelengths should have a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 110. The amplitude should be set at a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 37. Both the vertical scale and horizontal scale should be 100%. Under type, select “square” and under undefined areas, select “repeated edge pixels.” Apply all of these settings and close the wave box.

Now, go back to filters, and this time click “distort” and then “polar coordinates.” In the window that opens, change the settings to “rectangular to polar” and set the value at 100%. It’s time to invert the colors now. Go to “image”, then “adjustments”, and then “invert.” Now adjust the curves and the sliders in the same way, by opening the image file, then adjustments, and the choosing “curves” or “levels.” There’s not right setting for the curves and sliders; simply set them to however you like them.

You should now open the blending tool and set the layers panel to “multiply.” Go back to the filters mode and select “distort” and “twirl.” In the window that opens, change the setting to 100% and the angle to -80%. Now go to “layers”, then “flatten,” and then “image.” Viola! You should now have a glowing swirl.

You can use your swirl however you like, be it in print media or for online computer graphics. You can also apply the principles you used to make the swirl to making other glowing graphics in Photoshop. As any Photoshop user knows, mastering techniques on the program takes plenty of practice, but once you get the hang of it, it is worth it.

Adobe Photoshop software has many masking applications in its program. These masks allow you to make changes to the image you are working with and add various effects to certain areas of the image, without changing or adding the effect to the whole image. Experts liken masking to putting masking tape around your room when you paint to protect areas of the wall you don’t want to paint. Masking software in Photoshop works on the same idea.

Layer masks and selection masks are two popular masks used within Photoshop. Many people use layer masks exclusively, and they are certainly the most commonly used mask. Selection masks, however, are an important and under used part of the program. Instead of just masking and editing your layers, selection masks allow you to control the selections you make and elect to only edit or protect the parts of the image you have specifically selected.

One type of selection mask that is easy for new users to try out is a so-called “quick mask.” When using a quick mask, you can make selections on your image using your paintbrush tool or pencil tool instead of using your lasso tool, which can be unwieldy when working with small portions of an image.

To get started, select an image to work with, and open that image within your Photoshop program. Now, open your marquee tool and select part your image.

Now, it is time to open your quick mask tool. It is in your toolbox, near the bottom right side - it has a white circle on a gray background. When that is done, everything that you have not selected should turn red - make adjustments to your selection if necessary.

Now, it is time to open your pencil tool or paint brush tool; whichever you choose to use. With that open, change your foreground color to black in your tool box and draw around the image. This will make the mask larger while unselecting the image at the same time. This will give you a larger are to work with while get your mask to exactly the right size, without damaging anything around what you have selected. Now zoom into your masked area and change the foreground color to white. White will make your mask smaller and re-select your image. Using your pencil or paint brush again, carefully remove the edges of the mask that go outside your image and cover areas that you do not want to be covered. When you are satisfied that your mask is adequately covering what you it to cover, and not covering anything else, click the “standard mode” button in your tool box - right next to the quick mask button. This will seal your mask, and your image should be protected.

Some people prefer to change the way their quick mask works. If you want to change the setting, double click on the quick mask icon to open up a dialogue box. In here, you change the opacity of your mask. You can also change which area is highlighted in red when you first select your object - if you want your select to be highlighted, rather than everything NOT selected, then change the “color indicates” box from “masked areas” to “selected areas.”

There are plenty of other functions for selection masks, like alpha channels, but the quick mask will allow you to get used to using the utility and seeing how it best works for you. Like many Photoshop applications, it requires some trial and error to master it completely.

Photoshop tools are not just the best for editing photos. They can also be used to develop a website. The tools can be used to create Web pages, save them as a Web Page Gallery, and enhance a Web site’s appearance. Users can use Photoshop tools to optimize images and develop their own Web site. Users should first create a side; creating a sidebar requires creating a new file first, then creating a second document for the fill pattern. Users should only use the maximum magnification to paint pixels with the Pencil tool. To define a color, users must click the Foreground Color field in the Tools palette, and you must make sure the Web-Safe Colors option is selected in the Color Picker. Only the Web-Safe Colors option should be used when creating your pattern, Edit> Define Pattern will store the document as a pattern. The fill pattern document is temporary and won’t be needed, but can be saved for later editing.

After creating the fill pattern, you will need to go back to the first document to create the actual sidebar. To create the actual sidebar, you must select the Create New Shape Layer option and check that No Style is selected from the Layer Style pop-up menu. A new layer is needed to create the sidebar, and Photoshop will create it for you automatically. A sidebar is drawn using the Rectangle tool, and once it is drawn the shape is filled with the pattern, by creating a pattern overlay layer effect. To create a pattern overlay effect, choose Layer> Layer Style> Pattern Overlay, then select the saved fill pattern. When developing a Web site using Photoshop, you should decide whether to use frames or tables when you prepare the HTML. Making this decision affects what users will be able to do when developing the Web site using Photoshop tools. This decision is important when creating an arch

To create an arch for your Web site, create a new layer in the Layers palette and use the Rectangle tool to draw your shape, which will require zooming in, to create with precision. Changing the rectangle into an arch requires the user to click on the lower right corner of the rectangle with the Direct Selection tool selected, and drag the anchor point up while pressing the Shift key (to restrict the movement to the vertical axis). Then, use the Add Anchor Point tool to add an anchor point in the middle of the path, and move the anchor with the Direct Selection tool until you get an arch.

The side bar will need navigation buttons, and the first step in creating navigation buttons is creating a Duplicate of the layer with the arch. To Duplicate the layer, use the Duplicate Layer button in the Layers palette pop-up menu, then choose Layer> Layer Style> Clear Layer Style, to get rid of layer effects. Then, cut out the part of the arch above the sidebar and use it as a basis for the buttons. Next, select all anchor points with the Direct Selection tool-except the anchor point in the lower left corner of the arch, and the new anchor point to its right. After that, drag the path parallel by pressing Shift and the Option/Alt before releasing the mouse button, which creates a copy automatically.

Then connect the ends of the paths with the Pen Tool and use the Convert Point tool to adjust all of the handles of the anchor points. The shape color can be changed to black, or any color you choose by using, Layer> Change Layer Content> Solid Color. The final step is adjusting the Opacity of each button, to make the lower buttons more transparent. Then duplicating that layer, then moving and adjusting the paths and transparency can create other buttons. Photoshop tools can be used to develop and enhance any Web site.

Interlacing the stellar techniques of Photoshop can be extremely exciting. This article will examine a simple exercise that will help you learn how to weave different techniques into you images. You are going to learn to create a set of Olympic rings. This may seem a little off the cuff, but by performing this particular exercise you will be exploring the realm of layer interlacing.

Weaving layer content will make layers appear as if they are both in front of and behind another layer. Think of the Olympic rings. They look like they are linked, but they also look like they are passing through one another. To create such an effect, you will want to begin with a new blank image. Next, you will want to add a new layer and select the Elliptical Marquee tool from the Toolbox. Compress the shift key and drag a circle from the upper left corner of the image. If you like, you can give each layer a name. Then you can move on to choose the color of the first rings. Go to the menu and select “Edit>Stroke”. Decide on a good width and choose inside, leaving the blending mode on Normal with 100% opacity.

After that is done, click the New Layer button to add another layer. While the selection tool is still up, compress shift and grad the active selection to the top center of your image. Choose black as your foreground color and select Edit-Stroke and add another layer. Continue with the shift-drag selection until you have all of the Olympic rings created. Once you have your Olympic rings created, it is time to connect them. If you are familiar with the Olympic rings, you know that the yellow rings are at the front of the bottom of the blue ring. However, the yellow ring is also behind the blue ring to the right. What if the yellow ring is above the blue ring on a layer? The yellow ring will look like it is in front of the blue ring. To adjust this, you can erase a portion of the yellow ring.

Erasing is easy enough. Begin with a selection. The yellow ring’s layer is the one you want to erase. Leave the yellow ring’s layer active and Control-click on the thumbnail to select the blue layer. Next you need to take wither a brush or the Eraser Block option and erase a tiny portion of the yellow ring that sits on the blue ring. Keep the yellow ring’s layer active and Control-click on the layer with the black ring. Another selection will show up and we will be able to erase the tiny portion of the yellow ring that is over the black ring. Control-click on the red ring layer while the green layer is still active. This allows you to make one last link.

Manipulating images in Photoshop is one of the main reasons why the software is so popular. If you have Photoshop CS2, you can weave multiple images into your creative projects. You will be able to place text on paths and shapes, manipulate image correction, use filters and import and edit digital photos. To manipulate images in Photoshop, you will need to scan your image and save it as a TIFF file. Rotate the image to the right orientation in Photoshop. Take out all non-image areas along the edges to crop it.

Now, go to the image levels and change the white, black and mid points. You will want to use neutral color mid tones and change the image curve as needed. To get the mid tones to your liking and remove shadow, use the color balance dialogue. Save your image and channel mix black and white. Fix any spots and scratches and change the lit depth images. Save your images as a PSD file and flatten it. You’ve just manipulated an image in Photoshop.

If you are like most people that have Photoshop, you love it. The improvements you’ve made to your photos are remarkable. The images you have created are phenomenal. But you want more and of course, where there is a want or need, Photoshop has solutions. Photoshop CS has a plethora of new brush features to take your creativity to another level. Use the Brush Palette options to make natural media. Take the time to customize the brush tool so you will be able to move through applications quickly.

First, you will need to decide on a brush tip. Open a new composition or an open image. Choose the Brush too and click on Window>Brushes to show the Brushes palette. Pick Brush Tip Shape and then select a brush tip. If you are new to this, choose an easy tip like the Soft Round so you will be able to recognize the effects.

Pick Shape Dynamics on the Brushes palette. Click on the words opposed to the check box so you will be able to control the Shape Dynamic effect. If you use the checked box, you will not be able to guide the Shape Dynamic. Next, pull the size Jitter slider to alter the brush stroke. You can check the results to alter the brush stroke. You can check the results in the preview section of the Brushes palette before you decide to go with it.

Next, you will want to adjust a few other shape dynamics. Drag the slider to get more brush elements. You can pick the amount of randomness the effect has on a scale of 0% to 100%. 100% will give you a lot of randomness in the element. You can change control pop-up menus to alter brush elements.

To add scattering to the brush, pick scattering from the left side of the Brushes palette. You can control the number and placement of marks in a stroke with this preset. Change the scatter percentage to indicate the total percentage of scattering on a brush stroke. Change the Count value to indicate the amount of brush marks used at each spacing interval. Adjust the Count Jitter percentage to put more variance to the amount of brush marks used at every spacing interval.

To give your brush texture, select Texture on the left side of the Brushes palette. The choices in the portion of the Brushes palette allows you to create strokes that appear to have been painted in textured canvases. First choose the pattern sample in the palette. Next pick a pattern from the pop-up palette. Pick a pattern library from the base of the palette menu.

Now it is time to use your brush to paint in your image. Pick a color and paint freehand in your composition. You can save your new brush if you like. This will eliminate the time and effort you have to spend recreating the brush when you want to use it again. To save your brush, pick New Brush Preset from the Brushes Palette menu and give your brush a name. Click on OK and you should see your new brush in the Brushes palette.

Now that you know how to create brushes, explore the possibilities. Make a few brushes and use them to doctor up images. Have fun and remember to save all of you brushes. You never know when you will want to pull that same brush out again. Why go through the creation process one more time? Use your time wisely and spend more of it playing around and creating wonderful images. Take your creativity to the extreme with your new brushes.

Do you remember snapping photos of extraordinary sights or at key moments in life that you wanted to capture perfectly, but when you got the film back, your moment in time was imperfectly preserved? You were heartbroken and disappointed that you had to put the blurred pictures of Niagara Falls in a frame. That was the way things went far too often for beginning photographers. Then Photoshop was created.

Now you can have state of the art photo fixing software at your disposal. With the array of products that Adobe offers, there is no limit to the improvements you can make to your photos. Be sure you are aware to the tricks you can perform to correct photo flaws. If you are correcting your photos with Photoshop there are ways to achieve optimum level photos that you will be extremely satisfied with. Learn how to create perfect photos that are worthy of your mantle.

If you are working on a bad case of red eye, you can probably just use the red eye tool. Most software made over the past few years will have one. However, if you are trying to correct a tough red eye case, you may need more than the red eye tool. Begin by opening the image, Pick Image>Duplicate and close the original. Next, open the duplicate window and zoom in on one of the windows until the eyes are big as they can get. The other window should be set to 100%. Then stack the two windows so they are together for comparison. Pick the red areas of both eyes and go to Image>Adjust>Color Tone. When the title bar of the color tone dialogue shows up, click desaturate. Once the red is gone you can make the eyes look more natural with more Contrast and the Darker button.

If you want to make your Internet dating photo looks a little bit younger, don’t pile on the makeup. Use Photoshop to smooth out your wrinkles. First you need to open the Image and go to Layers>Duplicate. The go to Image>Blur and choose Soften or Soften More based on the amount of removal you need to do. Then, go to “Masks>New>Hide All”. This displays your original image from the background layer. Next go to Masks>Edit and set the foreground to white. Pick the Paintbrush and gently paint out the flaws. When you are completely pleased with the results, pick Layers>Merge All.

Sometimes, you might end up snapping photos with some background stuff you don’t want. To eliminate the objects in photos that have nothing to do with the picture, begin by picking the Rubber Stamp tool. Next you want to pick an area that is close to the object you want removed. Press Alt-clicking over the undesirable object and use the Rubber Stamp to paint over it.

If you have smudges on your photos, there is an easy way to clean them up. Choose the Smudge tool and clean up the smudged areas on the photo. Don’t forget to clean up after the Smudge Tool, which happens to make a bit of a mess.

Occasionally when you scan photos, your images will be a little less than you would like them to be. First, you will want to fix scanning artifacts, dust and unwanted highlights and shadows. Next you need to adjust overall color and brightness. Then you will want to sharpen the image and take out anything that causes distraction.

Understanding the difference between vector and bitmap graphics is something that often confuses professional designers and lay people alike. Familiarizing yourself with the differences, however, is crucial to completing the best work you can, because each graphic type has specific applications that it performs best, and going for the wrong graphic type will almost certainly compromise the quality of your work.

The first misconception to clear up is that the difference in these graphic types lies in the file format in which they are produced and saved. This idea is incorrect. For example, a bitmap image does not always have to be saved as a .jpg file. The difference between vectors and bitmaps is much deeper than this.

Bitmap graphics are the images you are most likely to work with and come across on a daily basis. It is the most popular graphic format out there; almost every picture your see on the Internet is a bitmap image. Bitmap images are made up of a collection of pixels, each with its own specific color formulation. These pixels, when grouped together, make up an image. The naked eye does not see the individual pixels, but rather sees the whole image that the pixels create. Bitmap images are popular for use because they can be reproduced almost exactly, with very little quality loss. They almost work like a formula or an equation, which simply tells the program which color to put where. You can save a file like that any number of times, and still it will reproduce exactly, because it is following the same formula. Bitmap images can easily be made smaller as well, without quality loss, because as long as there are still enough pixels present to create the image, then the image appears as clearly as it did at the original size.

A problem with bitmaps is that though they can be made smaller, it is difficult to make them larger. The original image has a finite number of pixels, and when the image is enlarged, the image does not have enough pixels to accommodate the new size. The image will then become blurry.

Vector files are completely different. Rather than being made up of pixels, vectors are made up of lines and points. These lines and points compose an outline of an object, which can then be filled with color and text. When a vector file is saved and re-opened, the information it communicated to the computer tells the computer how it should be drawn - for instance, in what order the lines should go and which points connect - instead of what the end product should look like. For this reason, vector files can be made into any size without quality loss - the computer simply follows the same directions on a larger or smaller scale. This is also the con to using vector images, though. Because they are just lines and points, they can only be used for simple, linear images. They cannot capture the nuances of complex colors and images.

Bitmaps and vectors each have their own ideal applications. Bitmaps are the best choice when it comes to reproducing photographs or images that need to feel real and life like, with plenty of detail and color. Vectors are best for images that need to be upsized and downsized repeatedly, and that you want to be able to change the colors in at will, like logos. Using the right graphic type for the right job will ensure you get the best results, every time you do a job.

The Adobe Photoshop program has so many uses; it is nearly impossible to pick favorites. Everyone who uses the program has their own favorite set of uses, because everyone uses the software program as their own objectives for using it.

Photoshop was first developed as software to design and edit images that were to be printed. It allows users to edit images several times over and save them repeatedly without losing any quality, so they were of a high enough standard to print. This use is still probably the most common, although recently, the Adobe Photoshop brand has branched out to include more applications that allow users to edit film and create professional quality DVDs.

The number one use of Photoshop is editing photos. Everyone has heard people claim that the reason celebrities always look so fabulous is because magazines make liberal use of Photoshop editing! But Photoshop is not just for airbrushing. It has a wide variety of uses in editing photographs, from fixing flaws, like red eyes or blurs, to cropping and refocusing photos. It is possible to crop something from one photo and add it to another, or use the color tools in Photoshop to brighten up a dull picture. Photoshop has revolutionized photography for professionals and amateurs alike; many photographers can hardly remember life without it.

A second popular use for Photoshop is creating graphics for web sites. Designers are limited only by their own imaginations. Photoshop allows designers to incorporate photos, clip art, and vectors and images of their own creation they draw using the pen tool to create the graphic that they have in mind. Because Photoshop uses so many file formats, designers can save their designs in files specifically suited to their task, be it web design or printing.

Graphic designing for print media purposes is a third common use for Photoshop. This can have a number of applications, from magazine and newspaper layout to designing images to be printed on items like mugs, buttons, shirts, or almost anything. Photoshop allows users to take an image and bend it to see what it will look like on the scale of and in the shape of the item it will be printed on, and then edit it accordingly. This tool is invaluable to magazine designers as they lay out text and images together and to clothing designers who want to see how images work on their items.

A fourth popular use for Photoshop is collaborations. Because you can save files numerous times without losing quality, and because the file formats are compatible on nearly every operating system, Photoshop users of all sorts can collaborate with co-workers all over the world. And the collaborations are not all about work, either. A popular game has grown out of Photoshop technology called Photoshop Tennis, in which two designers send an image back and forth to each other, each making a change each time, for a pre-set number of rounds. At the end of the game, an independent judge declares who made the most valuable contributions.

A fifth use for Photoshop is sharing digital photos. Photoshop allows users to download right from their digital cameras to the program and make large batch alterations, and then save these photos in compressed files so they are easy to share.

A sixth important, if specialized, use of Photoshop is creating 3D animation. Pixar format is supported by Photoshop and has been used to create many Disney movies, like “Toy Story.” Though every Photoshop designer does not use this feature, it has made an important impact our culture.

Many users have found Photoshop to be one of the best photo editing tools. The program offers an array of creative projects for users to indulge in, as well as editing tools to correct photographs. There are many features of the Photoshop software that is more attractive than others. Most users have the same likes and dislikes of Photoshop’s features, and there are certain features that all users love. The first favorite feature of many consumers is the File Browser. The File Browser gives users quick access to automated tools and metadata editing. The Photomerge feature is also a commonly loved feature. Photomerge was introduced in the Photoshop Elements software, but has since become a popular feature of Photoshop. This feature is enhanced to accommodate larger images. It also automatically arranges multiple images to create a panorama.

Next on the favorite’s list are the custom keyboard shortcuts. Users can create custom keyboard shortcuts, add new keyboard shortcuts, save and share shortcut sets, and print a reference chart of their shortcut keys. The Filter Gallery is also an attractive feature for many consumers. The Filter Gallery is located under the Filter menu, and it gives users a visual way of selecting effects filters. It also allows users to compound multiple filter effects and apply them in one step. Many people also love the History Palette in the Photoshop software. The History Palette can help users remember how to perform a technique, record time-tracking information, and create a legal record.

Text on Path is another beloved feature of Photoshop. The Text on Path tool allows users to put type on a path or into a shape. Another favorite feature of many Photoshop users is the live histogram feature. This feature gives updates in real time as the user edits images. Users also like the feature that allows them to customize picture package layouts. The Photoshop software has a dialog box that allows visual editing and creation of new picture package layouts. So, users can create pictures of different sizes, such as 3X5 and 4X6. Saving files, as a Web Page Gallery and PDF File, are another attractive feature, because saving files in either way allows easy transference to a web page. Saving a file as a PDF also gives users the chance to save their comments on designs and photos.

The last favorite feature of Photoshop users is a feature called “scrubbers.” This feature is a user interface control that allows users to enter numbers without removing their hand off the mouse. Although, often overlooked, many consumers love the Color Replacement Tool of Photoshop. The Color Replacement Tool helps users replace unwanted colors in photos, and is most commonly associated with removing red-eye. Although Photoshop shapes are a simple feature to the software, the shapes tool is one of the most loved features of Photoshop. The shapes tool helps users develop creative designs as well as enhance their pictures. The shapes tool is simple, but it is one of the most needed tools in the Photoshop software. The shapes tool allows users to create fun projects, such as wanted posters, collages, digital scrapbooks, and greeting cards.

All of the features of Photoshop are used to advance the software as well as give users simple photo editing solutions. Users find much pleasure from using the software, but there are certain features that consumers like more than others. Photographs are a major part of many people’s lives, and Photoshop helps them enhance the photographs as well as preserve them. Photoshop was developed to make editing photos simple and fun. Most of the consumers’ favorite features are the features that make editing their photos easier and add excitement to the software.
